The Dorking Gate

A pair of oak estate gates with sweeping curved bracing for principal entrances, driveways and private approaches. The Dorking Gate uses traditional mortise-and-tenon joints secured with timber dowels and is developed around the opening, ground levels, supporting posts or piers and the way the entrance will be used.

Product overview

A considered entrance, not an off-the-shelf pair

Paired gates need to meet cleanly, clear the ground throughout their swing and remain manageable at the required width. The Dorking Gate's matched leaves and curved components require more design and manufacture than a standard field gate, so each pair is assessed and priced individually.

Suitable for

  • Private estates and country properties
  • Driveways and principal entrances
  • Vineyards, hospitality and equestrian sites
  • Landscape-led residential projects

Materials & construction

Good timber, clearly stated.

Oak is selected for the agreed proportions and exposure, with suitable exterior ironmongery and fixings. British-grown oak is preferred where it is suitable, available and commercially practical; European oak may be proposed where it offers a better fit for the dimensions or programme.

Maintenance & repair

Made for maintenance and repair.

A paired entrance benefits from periodic checks of the hinges, meeting clearance, centre stop, latches, posts and drainage. Hardware and suitable timber components can be adjusted, repaired or replaced individually where practical.
